Sedum stoloniferum: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Vulnerable species. Two sub–populations are known. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. The category of threat has been downgraded to VU for being widely distributed in the Caucasus. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Stems creeping or ascending, flower stalks 8–20 cm, branched. Leaves opposite, with short petioles, obovate, at base broadly cuneate, at margins shortly dentate, prickly. Inflorescence lax, corymbiform, foliated. Sepals linear, obtusiusculous. Petals pink, lanceolate, 5–7 mm long. Ripe fruits stellate–prostrate.

Distribution. In Armenia the species occurs in Aparan (Tehenis Mountain) and Zangezur (surroundings of Tsav, Nerqin Hand, Shikahogh villages and Khustup Mountain) floristic regions. EOO is 2590 km2, AOO is 40 km2. The number of locations is 2. Besides Armenia the species is distributed in the Greater Caucasus, Colchis, Central Transcaucasia, Talish and North Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower and middle mountain belts, at the altitudes of 750–1800 meters above sea level, between the gaps of the rocks, on stony slopes. Flowering from May to June, fruiting from July to August.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy.

Conservation actions. The greater part of the population grows in "Shikahogh" State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
