Rosularia chrysantha: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. Only one sub–population is known. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 2: Rare species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Rosette leaves glabrous, oblong–spathulate, at apex obtusate, at base cuneate, up to 2 cm long. Flower stalks 5–6 cm long. Inflorescence few–flowered. Flowers golden yellow, on short, 2 mm long, pedicels. Calyx dissected almost to the base, with lanceolate, acute, grayish–brown, glandular on the back lobes. Stamens 10; anthers pale orange.

Distribution. The species grows only in Darelegis floristic region (surroundings of Khachik and Gnishik villages). AOO is 16 km2, the number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia the species grows in Asia Minor.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in alpine mountain belt, at the altitudes of 2100–2800 meters above sea level, in the cracks of limestone rocks. Flowering from May to June, fruiting from July to August.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
