Coccyganthe flos-cuculi: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. One sub–population is known. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The species grows in swampy places, near highways. Road constructions and implementation of amelioration works represent of serious threat to the species. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Perennial, almost glabrous herb 30–70 cm. Leaves lanceolate. Calyx 6–8 mm long. Flowers pendent. Petals light violet, quadripartite.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows in Idjevan (surroundings of Lermontovo village) floristic region. AOO is 4 km2. The number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia the species is distributed in the Ciscaucasia and the whole of Europe.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in middle mountain belt, at the altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, in wetlands. Flowering in July, fruiting in August.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence, area of occupancy, and number of locations, loss/degradation of habitats caused by road constructions and expansion of arable lands.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
