Erucastrum takhtajanii: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. Endemic of Armenia. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. The species is on the verge of extinction caused by anthropogenic factor, especially economical activity. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Perennial herb 30–40 cm. Steam base, leave blades, petioles and calyx densely covered with setiform strict hairs. Flowers yellow. Silicle 15–45 mm long.

Distribution. Grows in Yerevan (Goht, Garni, Zovashen, Voghchaberd villages, Yerakh mountain range, "Erebuni" State Reserve) and Darelegis (Khachik) floristic regions. EOO is 900 km2, AOO is 36 km2, the number of locations is 4.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower and middle mountain belts, at the altitudes of 700–1900 meters above sea level, on dry slopes, in steppes and semi–deserts. Flowering from May to June, fruiting in July.

Limiting factors. Loss/degradation of habitats caused by economical activity.

Conservation actions. Part of the population is situated in "Erebuni" and "Khosrov Forest" State Reserves. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
