Myosotis propinqua: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. It is known in two floristic regions. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It grows in forest belt and can easily disappear as a result of deforestation. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Annual plants with basal leaf rosette. Stem in the lower part perplexed–lanate. Inflorescence many–flowered. Pedicels not more than 2 length of calyx. Corolla light blue, 4–5 mm in diameter, limb flat. Mericarps with white fleshy caruncle.

Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Meghri (Goghtan Mountain) and Zangezur ("Shikahogh" State Reserve) floristic regions. EOO is 125 km2, AOO is 12 km2, the number of locations is 3. Besides Armenia it grows in Nakhichevan, North Iraq and North Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in middle mountain belt, at the altitudes of 1100–1800 meters above sea level, in the forests. Flowering in May–June, fruiting in June–July.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, forest devastation timber cutting.

Conservation actions. Part of the population grows in "Shikahogh" State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
