Froriepia subpinnata: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. One small population is known in Armenia. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Biennial plant, up to 150 cm. Basal leaves bipinnate dissected. Umbels 3–4–rayed. Bracts and bracteoles 3–5. Petals whitish, almost rounded. Fruits 3 mm long, ridges filiform, vittae absent.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows in Zangezur floristic region ("Shikahogh" State Reserve). AOO is 4 km2, the number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia it occurs in the Greater Caucasus, East Transcaucasia, Talish and North Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 900–1000 meters above sea level, at forest edges, near roads. Flowering in July, fruiting from August to September.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, small quantity of mature individuals (less than 50).

Conservation actions. Grows in the area of “Shikahogh” State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
