Trigonella capitata: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. Only one sub–population is known with fragmented area of distribution. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 1: Endangered species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Annual plants. Stems 20–50 cm, hollow, branched. Leaflets oblong. Inflorescence on long peduncle, dense, hemispheric, after flowering elongating, but not becoming loose. Corolla whitish–violet, 4 mm long. Legume 1–seeded, ovate, glabrous, suddenly elongated into narrow, curved rostellum.
Distribution. In Armenia it grows in Yerevan (surroundings of Mkhchyan, Khoronq, Zeyva villages) floristic region. EOO is 200 km2, AOO is 16 km2, the number of locations is 2. Besides Armenia the species grows in Karabagh, Anatolia and North–West Iran.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 800–900 meters above sea level, in the marshes, in swamped places, along the banks of the streams. Flowering in June, fruiting in July.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by land development for arable purposes, drainage of the marshes, amelioration.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: survey on population numbers and range, search of new habitats, monitoring of the state of the population.
