Trifolium angustifolium: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. One sub–population is known. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. Taking into consideration the wide range of general distribution of the species the category of threat has been downgraded to EN. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Annual pubescent plants 10–60 cm. Leaflets linear, up to 8 x 2–4 mm. Inflorescense solitary, spiciform, 1,5–8 cm long. Calyx densely pubescent in the gorge, chinked, narrowed into crevice, with callose thickening; teeth subulate, at fruits divaricate–stellate. Corolla pink, hardly exceeding the calyx, 10–12 mm long.
Distribution. In Armenia it grows in Zangezur (surroundings of Kapan, Chakaten, Nerkin Hand, Tsav) floristic region. AOO is 8 km2, the number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia the species grows in Dagestan, Transcaucasia, the Crimea, Mediterranean Sea Basin, Makaronesia, Anatolia, Iran, North Africa.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 800–1000 meters above sea level, on dry slopes, among steppe shrubs, at forest edges. Flowering from May to June, fruiting from June to July.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy.
Conservation actions. Part of the population grows in "Shikahogh" State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
