Primula woronowii: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. Endemic of the Caucasus. In Armenia one sub–population is known. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 2: Rare species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Perennial herb, 5–8 cm. Scape not developed. Corolla pink, 2,5–3 cm in diam. Calyx slightly shorter than corolla tube. Decorative.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs only in Zangezur floristic region ("Shikahogh" State Reserve, neighborhoods of Chakaten village, slopes of Khustup Mountain). AOO is 16 km2, the number of locations is 2, the distance between which is 20 km. Besides Armenia grows in the East Caucasus, Central and East Transcaucasia.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower and middle mountain belts, at the altitudes of 800–1500 meters above sea level, in the forests. Flowering from April to May, fruiting from May to June.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by unsustainable forestry activities and road construction.
Conservation actions. A part of the population grows in "Shikahogh" State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state; introduction into floriculture.
