Category. Endangered species. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Perennial aquatic herb up to 40 cm with creeping rhizome. Stems branched. Leaves transparent, 1–2,5 x 0,3–0,8 (1,5) cm, with 3 veins and smooth or slightly undulate margins. Inflorescence spiciform, 1,5–5 cm long, few–flowered, on peduncle. Flowers hermaphrodite, small, perianth segments 4. Fruit rounded–reniform, slightly compressed, carinate, with short rostellum.
Distribution. In Armenia it grows only in Sevan floristic region (lakes Sevan and Lichk, Argichi river basin, Tsovak). EOO is 225 km2, AOO is 12 km2, the number of locations is 3. The general area of distribution includes the West Caucasus, South Transcaucasia, Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, Anatolia and North–West Iran.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in upper and sub–alpine belts, at the altitudes of 2000–2400 meters above sea level, in the sweet waters of lakes and slow–flowing waters. Flowering in June, fruiting in July.
Limiting factors. Water pollution as a result of economic and agricultural activities, global climate change.
Conservation actions. Habitats of the species are situated in "Sevan" National Park. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
