Bellevalia longistyla: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. It occurs only in Yerevan floristic region. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Perennial bulbous herb. Scapes erect, 20–30 cm. Leaves 6–7, 10–20 x 2–4 cm, broadly lanceolace, minute ciliate, scabrid or glabrous. Flowers in broadly conoidal raceme; basal pedicels longer than upper ones. Perianth 9–12 cm long, elongate–campanulate, pale lilac– greyish–brown; lobes of limb lighter. Capsule 12–14 x 8 mm.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows in Yerevan (Urts mountain range, Dzoraghbyur, Shorbulakh, Dzorap) floristic region. EOO is 680 km2, AOO is km2, the number of locations is 5. Besides Armenia the species grows in Nakhichevan, Zuvand, East Anatolia and West Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows from lower to upper mountain belt, at the altitudes of 600–2000 meters above sea level, on dry stony slopes, in the semi–desert, steppes and meadow–steppes. Flowering in June, fruiting in July.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by the expansion of arable lands.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
