Corydalis marschalliana: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. It occurs only in North Armenia. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 2: Rare species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Perennial herb with irregularly angulose–globose radical tuber. Cauline leaves 2, 2–ternate; lobes elliptic or oblong–elongate, usually entire, acutiuscule. Flowers in many–flowered lax raceme; bracts entire, large. Calyx membranous, caducous. Corolla zygomorphic, large, yellow or yellowish–pink, with distinct calcar. Capsule elongate, 1,5–2 cm long, pendent. Seeds small, black, shining.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows only in Idjevan (Koghb, Berd, Idjevan, Achadjur) floristic region. EOO is 770 km2, AOO is 24 km2, the number of locations is 4. The general area of distribution includes West Ciscaucasia, the West Caucasus, Central, South–West and SouthTranscaucasia, Karabagh, Talish, South–East Europe, Crimea, Anatolia and North Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower and middle mountain belts, at the altitudes of 500–1300 meters above sea level, in oak–hornbeam forests. Flowering from April to May, fruiting in May. It is decorative plant.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, forestry activities.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, special attention during forest management planning works.
