Gypsophila stevenii: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. Endemic of Transcaucasia. One population is known the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy of which are less than 10 km2. Road constructions and development of infrastructure will lead to the disturbance of habitats. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Perennial herb, 20–40 cm. Leaves linear, 1–3 mm wide. Calyx 3–3,5 mm long. Petals white, 1,5 times longer than calyx. Inflorescence usually shortly glandulose.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Idjevan (surroundings of Idjevan, village Hovk) floristic region. AOO is 8 km2. The number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia the species is distributed in East Transcaucasia.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 800–1200 meters above sea level, in dry stony slopes, in the shibliak. Flowering in July, fruiting in August.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by road constructions and the development of the infrastructure of the settlements.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
