Callitriche hermaphroditica: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species which is found in the Caucasus only in Armenia. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The species is on the verge of extinction caused by global climate change and anthropogenic factor. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Aquaqtic, completely submerged annual plant. Leaves small, linear, dark green, transparent, 1–veined. Flowers axillar, withot bracts. Perianth absent. Fruit dry, with 4 broadly alate excrescences, 4–seeded.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs only in Aparan floristic region (Chilli Lake). AOO is 4 km2. The number of locations is 1. The main area of distribution includes Eurasia and North America.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in upper mountain belt, at the altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, in the lake lets and swampy places. Flowering from June to July, fruiting from July to August.
Limiting factors. Restricted the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy, climate change.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: survey on population numbers and range, search of new habitats, monitoring of the state of the population.
