Sameraria glastifolia: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. It occurs in two floristic regions. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The area of distribution is severely fragmented. The species is on the verge of extinction caused by mining industry. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 1: Endangered species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Annual, glabrous, glaucous plant 15–40 cm. Stems branched. Cauline leaves oblong, at base deeply cordate, broadly auriculate; basal leaves oblong. Flowers pale yellow. Silicle indehiscent, rounded, at base cordiform, at apex slightly sinuate, at margins winged.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows only in Darelegis (Areni) and Meghri (Agarak) floristic regions. AOO is 8 km2, the number of locations is 2. Besides Armenia it is distributed in Nakhichevan and North–East Anatolia.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 400–900 meters above sea level, on dry saline and clay soils, among phryganoid vegetation. Flowering in April, fruiting in May.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by mining industry and road construction.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
