Leptaleum filifolium: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 500 km2. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Annual plant 3–15 cm. Stem divaricately branched from the base. Leaves linear, filiform, entire or pinnatisect to 3–5 lobes. Flowers white or pinkish. Siliqua linear, flat, difficultly dehiscent, 15–30 x 2–3 mm. Seeds numerous, elongate, in 2 rows.

Distribution. In Armenia it grows only in Yerevan (Urts and Yerakh mountains, Vedi, Yeraskh, Ararat) floristic region. EOO is 330 km2, AOO is 20 km2, the number of locations is 5. Besides Armenia the general area of distribution includes East Ciscaucasia and Nakhichevan, as well as South–West and Central Asia.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. The species generally grows in lower mountain belt, at the altitudes of 700–1100 meters above sea level, on dry stony slopes, among semi–desert vegetation. Flowering in April, fruiting in May.

Limiting factors. Generally loss/degradation of habitats caused especially by the expansion of settlements, agricultural development and road construction.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: survey on population numbers and range, search of new habitats, monitoring of the state of the population.
