Nonea rosea: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Vulnerable species. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. The main area of distribution of the species is situated beyond the borders of Armenia, thus the category of threat has been downgraded to VU. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Biennial hirsute herbs, up to 25 cm. Flowers remote. Calyx tubular, divided to 5 narrow teeth. Corolla scutellate, violet–pink or bluish. Mericarps straight, vertically oblong, with upright apex and narrow ring at base.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Meghri (surroundings of Shvanidzor and Aldara villages, mountain Berdakar) and Zangezur ("Shikahogh" State Reserve, mountain Khustup) floristic regions. EOO is 935 km2, AOO is 24 km2, the number of locations is 6. The general area of distribution comprises East Caucasus, Transcaucasia, North– East Anatolia, North Iraq and North Iran.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in middle mountain belt, at the altitudes of 1200–1500 meters above sea level, on dry stony slopes. Flowering in May, fruiting in June.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by expansion of arable land.
Conservation actions. The part of the population grows in "Shikahogh" State Reserve. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
