Grossheimia caroli–henrici: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. Endemic of Armenia. Only one population is known. The extent of occurrence and area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The species faces extinction caused by intensive economic activity in vicinity of resort Djermuk. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Perennial herbs. Stems up to 1 m, thick. Capitula globular–ovate, not hidden by upper leaves. Flowers yellow.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs only in Darelegis floristic region (surroundings of Djermuk). AOO is 4 km2, the number of locations is 1.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in sub–alpine belt, at the altitude of 2000–2200 meters above sea level, among tall grasses, at forest edge. Flowering from July to August, fruiting in August.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by the expansion of arable lands, recreation trampling, grazing, global climate change.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, search of new habitats.
