Grammosciadium pterocarpum: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Endangered species. One small population is known in Armenia. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The main threats are restricted area of geographic distribution, expansion of arable lands and road construction. The population is bordering with the one situated beyond the borders of Armenia (North–East Turkey) because of which the category of threat has been downgraded to EN. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.

Description. Biennial or perennial monocarpic plant, 30–60 cm. Umbels 5–14–rayed. Fruits linear–oblong, dorsally compressed, 10–14 x 4–5 mm, with wide, 1,5–2 mm, wings. Ornamental in fruits.

Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Upper Akhuryan floristic region (surroundings of Amasia). AOO is 4 km2, the number of locations is 1. Besides Armenia it grows in East and South Anatolia and West Iran.

Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in upper mountain belt, at the altitudes of 1800–1900 meters above sea level, on stony slopes, in meadow–steppes. Flowering in June, fruiting from July to August.

Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by the expansion of arable lands and road construction.

Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, search of new habitats.
