Allium egorovae: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. Endemic of Southern Transcaucasia. Only one location is known in Armenia. The extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy are less than 10 km2. The species faces loss/degradation of the only habitat caused by contingency and overgrazing. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Bulbous plant 7–20 cm. Leaves (2) 3 (4), 0,8–3 cm broad, narrowly– or linear–lanceolate. Inflorescence hemispherical, many–flowered. Perianth broadly infundibular–stellate; segments linear, whitish or pink; midrib purple–violet. Decorative plant.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs only in Meghri floristic region, in the surroundings of the village Kaler. AOO is 4 km2, the number of locations is 1. Three locations are known beyond the borders of Armenia – in Nakhichevan, on Zangezur mountain range.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in sub–alpine belt, at the altitude of 2300 meters above sea level, in the meadows. Flowering from May to July, fruiting from June to July.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, loss/degradation of habitats caused by overgrazing.
Conservation actions. Population is situated on the area of "Arevik" National park. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, search of new habitats.
