Lycopodium selago: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Critically endangered species. It was found in Mrkhuz mountain range in 1982. It was considered not only new species for the flora of Armenia, but also a species that belonged to new genera, new family and new order. The extent of occurrence (EOO) and the area of occupancy (AOO) are less than 10 km2. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Perennial evergreen herb 5–10 cm. Stems slightly ascending–erect or erect. Leaves spirally arranged, linear–lanceolate, dense. Sporangia solitary, axillary.
Distribution. It grows only in Idjevan floristic region (Mrkhuz mountain range). AOO is 8 km2, locations are 2. It is almost cosmopolite — plant that occurs in most parts of the world.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. This species grows from middle up to sub–alpine belt, at the altitude of 1000– 2300 meters above sea level, in the forests, in moist rocks.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state, search of new habitats.
