Status. A rare species. Listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (ver. 3.1) as Least Concern. According to IUCN criteria categorized as Endangered EN B1a+B2a; Ca(i); D.

Distribution. Spread from Turkey and Northern Iran’s deserts to Mongolia.

Distribution in Armenia. In the early 20th century nestled in the Sardarapat Steppe, Armavir Province.

Habitats. Clayey, salt and breakstone deserts.

Biological traits. Migratory. In nesting sites occurs from March–April to September. Nestles on the ground. Eggs (2–4, usually 3) are laid from late March to mid–April. The brooding period is 24 days.

Population size and its trends. At present, no nests are known in Armenia.

Major threats. Unknown. Small population size and human activities in the historically known nesting sites could have an adverse impact on the population.

Conservation measures. Not protected. It is essential to identify the nesting sites in the Sardarapat Steppe.
