Carps — Cyprinidae

Status. An endangered and poorly investigated species. According to IUCN criteria categorized as Data Deficient DD.

Distribution. The basins of the Black, Caspian and Aral seas.

Distribution in Armenia. Distributed in all water bodies associated with the Kura and Arax rivers.

Habitats. Rivers and reservoirs with slow flowing waters and silty grounds.

Biological traits. Feeds on small benthic organisms. Active in crepuscular and nocturnal time. Biology of this species in Armenia is not studied.

Population size and its trends. Singular individuals were caught in the late 1940s near the Taronik village.

Major threats. Unknown.

Conservation measures. Not protected. Artificial breeding was not applied.
