Carps — Cyprinidae

Status. An endangered species. According to IUCN criteria categorized as Data Deficient DD.

Distribution. The Kura and Arax river basins and the Hadercay, a tributary of the Lake Urmia.

Distribution in Armenia. Previously was distributed in all rivers of Armenia, except those in the Lake Sevan basin.

Habitats. Slow flowing river waters with sandy or sand–silty grounds.

Biological traits. Practically unexplored in Armenia. Lives near the bottom and feeds on benthic organisms.

Population size and its trends. The population had plummeted in the past decade. Not present in current ichthyological collections.

Major threats. Competitive pressure of alien fish species and poaching.

Conservation measures. Not protected. No artificial breeding was applied.
