Nuthatches — Sittidae

Status. A rare oligotopic species. Listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (ver. 3.1) as Least Concern. According to IUCN criteria categorized as Data Deficient DD.

Distribution. The subspecies is spread from Southern Europe eastwards to Western Iran.

Distribution in Armenia. Occurs in most parts of the country, inhabiting upland rocky areas.

Habitats. Lives in high mountains, rocky canyons and high cliffs.

Biological traits. Four to five eggs are laid usually once a year. Feeds principally on insects.

Population size and its trends. Available information is insufficient to judge about the population size.

Major threats. Impacts of adverse factors are not studied.

Conservation measures. It is essential to study human impacts on the population for future planning of species and habitat conservation.
