Category. Endangered species. Endemic of Armenia. Two sub– populations are known the distance between which is 200 km. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. The species faces decline of the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy caused by habitat changes. It was included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia under Category 2: Rare species. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Shrub more than 1 m. Leaves large, more than 5 cm long, covered with numerous yellow glands. Racemes 4–9–flowered, up to 5–6 cm long. Petals lilac or pinkish–grey. Bacca black, glabrous, on long peduncles.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Upper Akhuryan (surroundings of Amasia) and Darelegis (Djermuk) floristic regions. EOO is 1800 km2, AOO is 16 km2, the number of locations is 2.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in middle and upper mountain belts, at the altitudes of 1600–2200 meters above sea level, in rocky and stony places, at forest edge. Flowering from May to June, fruiting from July to August.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, climate change.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
