Lomatogonium carinthiacum: Red Data Book of Armenia

Category. Vulnerable species. At present four sub–populations are known. The extent of occurrence is less than 5000 km2, the area of occupancy is less than 500 km2. Taking into consideration that the main area of distribution of the species is situated beyond the borders of Armenia, the category of threat has been downgraded to VU. The species faces decline of the extent of occurrence and the area of occupancy caused by habitat changes in the result of climate change. It was not included in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Armenia. It is not included in the Annexes of CITES and that of the Bern Convention.
Description. Annual plant, up to 10–15 cm. Stems numerous, thin. Upper cauline leaves larger than the lower ones, up to 1 cm long. Flowers solitary, on long pedicels, pale sky–blew.
Distribution. In Armenia it occurs in Gegham (Gegham mountain range) and Zangezur (Vorotan river upper regions, surroundings of Goris, Kaputdjugh Mountain) floristic regions. EOO is 2775 km2, AOO is 20 km2. The number of locations is 4. Besides Armenia the species grows in Ciscaucasia, Azerbaidjan, Europe, Siberia, North–East Anatolia, Middle and Central Asia, North America.
Ecological, biological and phytocoenological peculiarities. Grows in sub–alpine and alpine belts, at the altitudes of 2600–3300 meters above sea level, in wetlands. Flowering from June to July, fruiting in August.
Limiting factors. Restricted extent of occurrence and area of occupancy, grazing and climate change.
Conservation actions. No conservation actions. Necessary: monitoring of the population state.
